GOLD!!!

Postby ginnysdaddy on Wed Jul 21, 2010 3:08 pm

When anyone talking about looking for gold, why does the GPAA always come up?
Are we not allowed to find the this Precious Yellow Metal without being a member of some club?
If I was to find gold here in PA, which I do know some spots, I am not going to pay $80 for some club.
I am going to Lake Anna in Virginia this week. Supposed to be alot of streams there that feed gold.
Lake Anna has a history for gold, like 100+ mines. Wish me luck.......

Hey Ginnysdaddy..best of luck to you and I hope you find lots of that pretty yellow. Lake Anna does indeed have a long history of being a good gold producer and one of the few places where you can publicly collect at. Let us know how you made out...Sue

Well, it was a good trip. I didn't strike it rich, but I did find like 5 flakes and 3 Garnets.
I was only in the creek for maybe 2 hours the first day, and 5 the next. The creek is pretty much worked,
but I was the only one around.I think I went the wrong way the first day, up stream. The 2nd day I walked like
1 1/2-2 miles down stream and hit alot of dredged pockets. Got some color, but that was only with a pan
and small flower shovel.Better luck next time, that is if I go back.....

Hey..you found color so that makes it all good even if it was just a few specks. Did you check and see if you can still pan along the lake shore? Years ago I was down there and there were families panning like that, the specks of gold would wash in with the waves action and you would dig down, then pan it down but like I said that was long ago and time tends to change things for us prospectors..less and less places to go to anymore. Glad you had a good time.

There was a beach on the Public side, Lake Anna State Park. I did detect the beach and found
like $1.05 in change. That stream that I went to is kind of open to the Public. That is if
you follow their rules. I would like to go back and maybe upgrade to some fancy equipment.
